WELBEING -IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY is the first of a new series of folios of words and image, of fine art prints and an essay, an essay handset in 16th century Plantin type -- strange as it might seem, to greet the new in garments of the old. But then the techniques of printmaking have long histories, in the west reaching back to the 15th century.

This first folio in this new series from Wycross Press contains nine sheets approximately 15 x 20 inches, with a publication date of June, 2004. This project began in the Spring of 2000 as an earlier series of folios was ending, a series celebrating the work of some 20 artist/printmakers.

The idea of this series is to inquire into the state of well-being, bringing both word and image - mind and body, so to speak - together in a grouping of works to take stock of this new born century into which we emerge. How, one might ask, might we find a state of ease with the times in which we live?

The publication of the work of Mary Cameron, Ed Paschke and Eric Avery in this first folio of WELBEING has been printed in an edition of 30 25 of these folios are being offered for sale and are truly, a limited edition. Inquires invited.

Mary Cameron's three page essay entitled - The Tides of Well-Being - recounts a consideration of the practice of Vipassana meditation, and its benefits in light of pressures possed by our culture. Mary holds a Ph.D from Michigan State University and is Director of Women's Studies Center at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida. She furnishes us with further references from her study for our study.

Eric Avery is an M.D. from Galveston Texas. He works with HIV patients and cuts relief prints, often printing on handmade paper. Eric is an Associate clinical Professor of Ps
ychiatry and Behavioral Sciences of the University of Texas Medical Branch. His prints are concerned with the health of that generation born in the 1960's, and of how feelings register in the brain.

Ed Paschke, born and raised in Chicago, and long associated with the Chicago Imagist group, brings a Jungian view to resolve those differences that emerge from his consideration of well-being; a handsome and perfect couple they are, ROSSA and ROSSO.

Ed died on Thanksgiving day, 2004.He taught at Northwestern University in Evanston for 27 years.

“Ed’s work exemplified a kind of biting edge that we find in a lot of Chicago history and literature, and he was at the center of Chicago’s Imagist movement, which tended to create a more accessible, upbeat, satiric, sometimes lampooning approach to culture,” ................ William Conger, professor of art theory and practice.

The illustrated colophon and cover sheet are the work of Conrad Ross. The work of Eric Avery and Ed Paschke are multi-colored lithographs printed on Somerset.
